Letter from Principal Lucy Davies

I am honored to be the principal at Benjamin Rush Elementary School and always look forward to working closely with our students, staff, and families.

I grew up in Toronto, Canada and headed west to attend the University of British Columbia where I completed a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education. More recently, I attended the University of Washington where I earned a Master in Educational Leadership and completed the Danforth Program for Educational Leadership.

I have worked in education for over fifteen years and I have taught all grades of elementary school as well as English Language Learners and middle school Math and Science. After teaching for close to ten years, I moved to the Curriculum and Assessment department of the Lake Washington School District where I have supported teachers across the district.

All of my past experiences have shaped the core beliefs that I bring to this new position. For me, schools should provide an excellent and equitable education for all students and, as a community, we should continually learn and grow together in order to help our students. That is why I look forward to working in a community that is passionate about providing the best learning opportunities for all children through teaching to high standards, working closely with our staff and families, and ensuring all students have the support they need to succeed.

I believe in the importance of relationships, including parents as partners in education, and appreciate the value of a strong learning community. I look forward to working for you and with you to assure that every student at Ben Rush Elementary develops into a highly capable and caring individual, prepared to pursue their dreams.

On a personal note, I am married and have a daughter who joined our family when she was a senior in high school. She is now living in Bellingham. She has taught us a lot about perseverance and family. I have also been a Girl Scout Leader for over twenty years and love camping, traveling, and spending time with my family and friends. I feel fortunate to have such a wonderful career and family.

Again, I am delighted to be joining this wonderful community of learners, and am looking forward to a successful year ahead.
