Programs & Events
Our Library sponsors a variety of programs through out the year to broaden and enhance literacy and global awareness throughout our school.
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books 2019-2020 is heating up! We will start our battles on Feb. 3. We will be battling every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday until the tournament is complete - approximately three weeks. The book list for this year is posted below.
Important Notice! Our district finals for Battle of the Books will have a new format this year. In the past, we have used Skype to battle school against school to determine the district winning team. To give our hard reading students more district attention, this year all the winning teams from across the district will be meeting on the evening of Mar. 24 at Barton Elementary in Redmond for one final mega-battle for the district title! More details will be coming!
The Battle of the Books is an optional program offered to students in Grades 4 & 5 to promote reading quality literature.
Students - you will be introduce to the books chosen for this year in October Library classes but you can start reading over the summer! Plan to read as many of the titles as you can. You will form teams of up to four classmates. Teams will compete by answering questions with the title of one of the books.
The list for the Battle of the Books includes titles from this year's Young Reader’s Choice Nominees and the Sasquatch Award Nominees.

Birthday Books!
Honor your child's birthday with the gift of a new book for our library collection. Any new, age appropriate books are welcome! Each book will receive a label showing the name of the donor and year of it was given. Any students who contributes a Birthday Book this year will be invited to celebrate at a Birthday Book Party in June.
This year I have set up "Wish Lists" on Amazon.com (see links below) so you can more easily find books, see detailed information and order them on the site if you wish. It is fine to choose a title and purchase it from your local book store. (Park Place Books in Kirkland is always happy to order books for you.)
Paperback copies are fine for most titles. Feel free to make the donation an event and come in with your student to give me the book!
